You were an angel, a biomechanical creature made by the God-Machine to implement its plan on earth. On your last mission something happened; you questioned the purpose of your orders, the laughter of a child made you hesitate and delay their execution, or perhaps you fell in love with an employee of the facility you were tasked to guard. You questioned God, exerted free will, and fell from grace. Fallen from your loyal, unthinking state as an agent of God, you wear a tattered shroud of humanity to hide from the angels. Hunted as an error in The Grand Plan. You struggle to reconcile the human life you wear with your nature as an inhuman being designed to fulfill a function, while you decide what to do with your precious, hard-won freedom. You search for a meaning to your existence here in the stink and the meat. You find others, broken machines like you, and wonder if you can trust them. You see the angels at work, still serving their purposes, and try to summon the courage to stop them. You search for somewhere you belong. You search for Hell. The angels search for you.
- Genre: Techgnostic Espionage
- Themes: Deception, Identity, Belonging
- Expectations: Espionage stories hinge on complex motives. Truly benign or malign Storyteller characters don’t happen or are noted for their rarity. Loyalty is a rare and precious thing, as most alliances are driven by convenience and immediate need rather than genuine affiliation. Espionage stories revolve around moral compromise. They’re about shades of grey, professional enemies being forced to act in terrible ways to accomplish their goals. When the ring destroys an Infrastructure, innocent lives may be lost in the crossfire. When an angel comes for a demon, it doesn’t care who gets in the way and it doesn’t matter that the angel is essentially a slave — if the demon doesn’t kill it, his own life is forfeit. Sometimes in order to go on living, a demon must cross a line or abandon a moral code. A demon who never had to break his own rules is young, lucky, unstable to begin with, or an infiltrator working for the God-Machine
- Pacing: This game will move at a slower pace than what you may be used to as a game based on espionage will focus on gathering information, resources, and intelligence about your enemy in a way that doesn’t get you caught. Breaking cover tends to get Demons killed, quickly. The chronicle is expected to last 6 sessions.
- Setting: Baltimore, Maryland. The city has a reputation for danger. Whether deserved or not developers, and the God Machine that backs them, have used it to gain "blighted" waterfront real estate for pennies on the dollar. As rowhouses and senior housing get demolished, replaced with jagged towers of steel and glass, the occult energies of the city are changing, shaping the city to the Machine's plan. Recently more demons have had their covers blown, as squads of angelic hunters have had their success rate spike, and have stalked their prey through multiple identities across the Mid-Atlantic. Whatever the hell the Machine is building has made it harder to hide and must be disabled before its too late.
- Character Creation: Standard character creation for new demons. Additionally submit a wishlist with your completed sheet. Extra items will be granted from the wishlist to get the team situated.
