Skyfall Redux
Houston, Texas, the Awakened community is recovering from the last Wizards War nearly 5 years ago. The conflict lasted for 4 years as Magi factions fought over the mystical leylines and hallows within Lake Sabine. The forces of the Houston Consilium were defeated, suffering extensive casualties and the ruling council was forced from power. In its place the Free Council has risen, promising to rebuild from the ashes and usher in a new age for the Awakened. Much was lost in the war, the power and influence of the Awakened being most evident and the mages no longer the dominant power in the region.
Other forces stir in the shadows to fill the power vacuum left after the war. The Faerie Freehold and the Vampire Court are locked in an intricate power struggle as they extend their influence into the mundane and supernatural worlds. Fighting over control of entertainment venues, mortal politicians and drug trafficking routes. This secret war is waged in the shadows of the mortal world, occasionally threatening to spill over into the attention of mortals.
The threat of this conflict escalating isn’t the only thing of concern to the residents of the city. Rogue spirits and crazed killers stalk the night, causing damage and harming innocents. Puzzling equations with occult sigils are written in human blood on the walls of truck stop bathrooms. Rumors abound that an ancient enemy of the Pentacle, the Seers of the Throne, have returned to enslave the souls of mankind to the their eldritch masters. Threats and opportunities abound in these interesting times as those possessed of courage take a stand and make their mark upon the world.
Our Story So Far
Our story began nearly two years ago when a Cabal called “The Shades” was formed by Madame Ivory, Agent Green, Lieutenant Teal and Ms Fern. Madame Ivory maintained the Cabal’s front as a magical goods store peddling tarot cards and fake charms to gullible teenagers and those unready for True Magic. From time to time our intrepid adventures worked as occult detectives, solving crimes, catching serial killers and putting rogue spirits to rest.
Their last adventure began at a fundraising event the Cabal had been invited to at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Sensing that something was amiss Madame Ivory prepared a piece of art with flaming braziers to entertain the crowd and force the undead who had crashed the party away from the scene. The timely intervention of a new ally, Katherine and Ms Fern’s quick wits prevented the Mayor’s secretary from being killed by a vampire in the womens bathroom. The group captured the remaining vampires, and handed them over to the Vampiric Mafia, conducting a joint interrogation. They learned that the Seers of the Throne had manipulated the young vampires into attacking VIPs at the event, and that the Seers were hold up in the Bank of America building downtown.
Impressed by Katherine’s resolve (and intimidation roll), the Vampire Mafia joined the Cabal in assaulting the Bank of America building. Offering to create a distraction by driving a limo full of their enforcers into the lobby of the building and fighting the security detail while the Cabal snuck in. Once inside Ms Fern used her unparalleled skill at disarming wards and magical traps to get the group to the top level of the building to join battle for the waiting seers. What they found was not a boardroom but a palace of crystal that forced each one of them to confront their worst memories. Katherine had to relive the memory of seeing her father being gunned down by criminals on their front lawn before she was able to shatter the enchantments. With the illusions dispelled they found themselves in an ornate chapel to the exarch’s with a lone Seer, Fin, waiting for them with his army of zombie and revenant servants. Witty barbs were traded and an epic battle ensued as the party fought against the force arrayed against them. Fighting was soo fierce that reality buckled under the pressure and the scene shattered into pieces of broken glass falling into the abyss. The group leaped from pane to pane of glass as they tried to find an exit and the laughter of children could be heard in the distance. A golden road appeared in the distance, sent by Madame Ivory to rescue the group from a fate worse than death.
As they moved towards the road Fin continued his attacks as his arch nemesis, Ivory, came to the rescue. Scenes from past centuries of the two engaged in battle played in the distance as group navigated the treacherous environment and narrowly managed to escape the Abyss. Ivory had ascended to the Supernal Realms while her rival fell into the Abyss. When we last left our heroes they had navigated the Golden Road back home to enjoy a cup of tea and rest after their harrowing adventure.
TL;DR
This is a mixed New World of Darkness chronicle using the Mage and Changeling gamelines modified with the rules updates introduced in God Machine Chronicle. The World of Darkness is much like our own except that the world is a grimmer and crueler place and magical creatures exist alongside humans in the shadow. Inspiration for this chronicle is heavily drawn from Lost Girl, and the Dresden Files book series. This game will explore themes of: Mystery, Discovery, Power, Consequences and Hubris. There is no set game date as we all have busy schedules but ideally I would like to play twice a month.
